Susan G. Komen: Sleeping With The Enemy (song)

The Susan G. Komen For The Cure foundation has been in the spotlight of the news for the last couple of weeks. Initially pulling funds from Planned Parenthood, and then after a viral attack and pressure from thousands on the web, reversing that decision immediately. It was surprising to a lot of people. A shock, really. It also put Planned Parenthood in the limelight during these critical decision making moments of the GOP presidential race. The GOP has been attacking Planned Parenthood for years over the abortion-rights issue. Their campaign to take this decision and choice away from women is no secret. The Susan G. Komen foundation must have cracked under pressure from anti-abortion groups and caved in to their demands. Only to reverse that decision later:

“We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women’s lives,” the Komen foundation announced in a statement Friday morning.

Now, usually when something like this happens on this scale, the GOP remains firm in their decisions. They don't allow emotions to alter their decision making in business and especially politics. Because the GOP is dominated by the men who don't really react to anything emotionally. Because they are focused on money, only.

And that is why this case is so unique to me. Because the one thing the GOP didn't anticipate was the fact that, yes, women do react emotionally. And in this particular case it WAS a business decision effected by an emotional reaction. Because this business decision effects the lives of women in the United States Of America. Which should warrant an emotional reaction to every man who has a female relative. Why shouldn't it?

And for the first time in a long time, I see before me the one crucial element in balancing out the power struggle in America. Because there have been millions of women who've caved into the rhetoric of men and given up their personal freedom and choices. There are too many women who do not feel safe because they fear this rhetoric. This rhetoric of fear which has been lavishly garnered by men in search of power and wealth. And backed by brutal physical and unwarranted abuse sold as punishment. But now, in this new age of technology, women can read and feel the support of millions via the internet in regards to their issues. Our issues. Women are speaking out with more confidence than we have ever seen. And getting results.

Because it simply makes sense. As if your own grandmother was telling you. And more and more, women like this are breaking free from the greedy, selfish, power thirsty businessmen who have been oppressing women longer than any other group of people in the history of mankind...

To all the fathers, brothers, sons, uncles...

It Is What It Is

It's not what your country can do for you...it's what your country is doing TO you.
The first step in change is to accept and understand what it is that we are changing.

Dear United Corporations Of America,

It Is What It Is by mooselethridge
If you're foolin' around with the laws of stability
And so many years of recorded anthropology
Don't act surprised with that look of stupidity
If I dismiss your financial possibilities
How many frauds in this continuum
Are holding a job to consistently ruin it
Making it hard to accept how you're doing it
Guilty as charged with the facts there proving it

As natural as the light from the midday sun
Shining in the sky since the summer of one
Inherent to us all as plain as can be
Your incessant need to change all that we see
But it is what it is, that's how it is
Even a scientist would have to admit that
All the deranged are rearranging everything
Into something so strange
But it is what is, that's how it is
And now we all get to deal with the mess
All the deranged are rearranging everything
Into something so strange and now it is...
That's how it is
The way that it is
Is what it is

If you're wondering how the whole world is gonna change again
Look at the proud corporations running everything
They won't stop and the people keep suffering
But some of us have a way to bring hope again
Balance the pain with a blow to the heart of it
Dividing the game that they play for the conquering
And just explain to their own kids living in it
Our whole futures on the line it's time to deal with it

As clear as the water in the deep blue sea
That brings all life to you and me
Inherent to us all as plain as can be
Your incessant need to change all that we see
But it is what it is, that's how it is
Even a scientist would have to admit that
All the deranged are rearranging everything
Into something so strange
But it is what is, that's how it is
And now we all get to deal with the mess
All the deranged are rearranging everything
Into something so strange and now it is...
That's how it is
The way that it is
Is what it is

We Got A Scapegoat Now!

President?
Politics?
Elections?

Pay no attention to the fool on the hill trying to hide his disguise
Haze and smoke behind the mirrors as the years burn red in your eyes
Pass that buck like a flame and we'll know who to blame next time
Ask that man in the hot seat sweatin' through the cracks of his mind

We got a scapegoat now, we knew he'd turn up somehow
So take your problems on down for the man with the two horned crown
We got him now! We got him now yeah...we got a scapegoat now
We got him now yeah!

Bend right over til your back starts to break from the weight in your arms
Send your burdens to the top because they never seem to do him harm
He was made to take a punch we just never had a hunch who he was
See him wobble back and forth at the podium of promises

We got a scapegoat now, we knew he'd turn up somehow
So take your problems on down for the man with the two horned crown
We got him now! We got him now yeah...we got a scapegoat now
We got him now yeah!

Hold your laughter at the bank til you're sure that you're walking away
Spend your money on a steak while you talk about the good old days
Who could have guessed at the price that you're payin' for your gasoline
But you'll never have to think twice if you don't have a clue what it means

To have a scapegoat now, we knew he'd turn up somehow
So take your problems on down for the man with the two horned crown
We got him now! We got him now yeah...we got a scapegoat now
We got him now yeah!

It' All About Money

If you ever have any questions about politics, just read The Star Bellied Sneetches by Dr. Suess. You will learn at the end of the story how politics work. Every politician I have ever heard about has reminds me of Sylvester Monkey McBean. You know, the guy who divided and conquered those poor Sneetches because of their inability to sort out their differences on their own.
As we draw nearer to the 2012 election, try to understand that no matter who we vote for...it's all about money.

Slow Grind

It is an era of hyper-instant-gratification. Technology has erased all my friends phone numbers from my head. WTF? I used to know them by heart. In fact, my friends use to ask me for their numbers when they were drunk. Now...it's different. Everything has sped up. Language is getting chopped into acronyms because we are too lazy to spell. I remember rotary phones. And I could probably send out 3 texts in the time that it takes the rotary dial to duh, duh, duh, duh, duh back from the number 9. But have things improved with the speed of technology? The answer is, pardon my french...fuck no they haven't. To quote Louis CK, the comedian, "Everything is amazing and nobody's happy."

So...
If you are like me and prefer quality to quantity, then this song is for you.
Because good things take time. So have patience with your Slow Grind...in this amazing era.
And good luck!

To the people trying to "save the planet" with clip boards:

I might make a flier of this to hand back to these folks one day:
Dear hippy clip board holder,

I understand that you are devastated by the atrocities on planet earth. Me too. I understand that you want to make a difference. Me too. But understand that this is a feeling and context that we do not share simultaneously. While you are here collecting money for your cause, attempting to guilt trip people into donating funds, there are thousands, if not millions of folks out there right now making a difference. People will always donate money to a worthy cause. The problem with your tactic is that it is borderline entrapment. Get behind something that attracts peoples empathy, like art/music and dance. What I have always learned about life is that you have to give a little to get a little. So, when I am walking down the street and some pachoulie scented clip board holder shouts," Hey, don't you wanna save the planet?! " My inner voice says, " Hitler already tried that. It didn't work. You wanna save the planet? Go get a real job and buy some music. "
My outer voice says, " Yes, I am..."

Have a wonderful day.

Scapegoat

Every 4 years we elect a person to seek out new ways to bring us together as a nation of divided political parties.
In that 4 years we expect this person to find solutions to problems that we have been creating for hundreds of years. If not thousands.
In just 4 years we accumulate enough mistakes and burdens to pass on to the next elected CEO of this nation. To boldly blame this person for the problems we cannot solve individually.
Technology has allowed me to post this demo'd song for anyone to hear. Ironically the same technology allows us all to point our fingers at someone who voluntarily signed himself up to be our very own scapegoat...which again, ironically, points that same finger back at ourselves.

Pay no attention to the fool on the hill trying to hide his disguise
Haze and smoke behind the mirrors as the years burn red in your eyes
Pass that buck like a flame and we'll know who to blame this time
Ask that man in the hot seat sweatin' through the cracks of his mind

So take your problems on down to the man with the two horned crown
We got him now...we got a scapegoat now...we got him now!

Send your burdens to the top because they never seem to cause him harm
